ABOUT THE AUTHOR
CHLOE E. ATREYA grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She first learned about Complexity
from University of Michigan Professor and MacArthur Fellow, John H. Holland.
In 1994, Chloé attended Professor Holland’s Ulam Lecture Series
at the Santa Fe Institute, devoted to multidisciplinary collaborations in emerging
areas of research, including Complexity. The lecture series was destined to
become Hidden Order: How Adaptation Builds Complexity, Holland’s
first book for a wider audience and a key inspiration for this work.
Chloé then went on to college at Princeton University, where she majored
in molecular biology and earned a certificate in visual arts, focusing on biological
chemistry and zinc etching. Still bridging disciplines, she continued to be
active in the visual arts while earning an MD and a PhD in pharmacology at Yale
University. Chloé is now in the Medicine Residency Program at the University
of Washington in Seattle.
